Adoption Mania

We're so excited to say that not only has sweet Maddie found her forever home, 3 of her puppies, Rosie, Harley and Cruiser have found excellent families who are already preparing anxiously for their arrival.

The only problem that occurs when adopters come to visit is the difficulty they all find in choosing just one of these absolutely lovely and affectionate pups to call their own!

Puppy Love - and Good News for Maddie

As promised here is the not so great quality video of Maddie's puppies - and consider yourself warned, I am no videographer and I used my digital camera to catch the video footage. Lack of quality aside, it's an amazing thing to see puppies that couldn't really walk 2 days ago playing like real (if tiny) dogs and to be able to share it.

The puppies are a happy and playful bunch who already, thanks to Maddie's willingness to allow us to handle her pups, are already quite people affectionate. When any of us sits on the floor and Miss Maddie isn't around, you can bet we'll find ourselves with a lap full of cuddly puppies momentarily.

The puppies have had their two feedings that weren't provided by Momma and while I can say it was a messy affair, it was also highly entertaining.

So, what's the good news for Maddie you ask?

Well, our darling Maddie has already found her forever home with an amazing woman who played a significant part in helping us to rescue her. We're very excited for Maddie to have the security of a forever home when she has completed her job as a mother and know she will be well loved and taken care of.

Puppies, too, are finding their forever homes - and now these lovely 11 dogs that would not be alive today are going to become part of loving families who couldn't imagine their lives without them.

Please help stop the slaughter of innocents - spay or neuter your animals, contact your government locally and provincially, refuse to buy from stores that get their puppies from puppy mills...adopt and save a life!

6 Days of Changes

When Maddie, babies and I first got home together, I had one lovely Momma dog with some serious cleaning needed, eyes all red and sore, and a squirming pile of tiny puppies that, though they looked different, behaved more or less the same.

Just 6 days later Maddie's eyes are looking so much better and she is settling in beautifully, loving the idea of living inside and getting loads of affection. She's become quite the couch cuddle monkey, happy to make friends with everyone who visits.

Today the puppies ALL have their beautiful eyes open. Puppy ears are starting to pop up from their starting positions laid back against their heads. I ran into the room today after hearing puppy squeaks, worried that something had happened, and found 10 lovely puppies, most of them up on their feet, wandering around their safe area calling for their Momma. 10 puppy personalities are starting to emerge.

Stay tuned to Maddie's blog for video soon to be uploaded, so that you can all experience the excitement of watching these babies take their first real steps into a world with lots to explore.

The Eyes Have It

Today's post will be short and sweet.

The big news is all about eyes... which we've started to see many off. Boy do these little darlings have absolutely beautiful eyes.

As for Miss Maddie, the medication is helping significantly with her eyes. The discharge and redness are clearing and she's so tollerant of all our administrations of treatment. Her beautiful fur is soft and fluffy and she likes to curl up on the couch and snuggle when she's taking a brief break from her babies.

As things change over the days we'll get some more photos up so you can follow the progress of all of these darling souls.

The Maddie Bunch

(click the picture for a larger image)

Introducing (from left to right) Amber, Belle, Cruiser, Dante, Maddie, Echo, Hailey, Harley, Honey, Ripley and Rosie!!!

Look at these beautiful babies and their Momma! Not the easiest thing ever, to get photos of 11 day old pups, but I wanted you all to see how beautiful they are.

Day two with these lovely doggies has come to an end and things are going exceptionally well. We’d like to introduce you to these beautiful puppies, all looking for kind and loving forever homes where they will never have to live as their mother did.

Maddie is settling in beautifully. She absolutely loves people, young and… older. The second any of us approach her she is all tail wags and happy dog sounds. She allows all of us, including our 4 year old son, to gently handle her puppies, though she does keep a close watch on them.
It seems that, as is the case sometimes with dogs, Maddie has not let her rough early life affect her sweet and gentle personality – she’s an absolutely calm and charmingly sweet dog.

We “enjoyed’ our first bath today and Maddie smells much nicer and looks so pretty. Her fur is so soft that you could spend hours stroking it and she’d be happy to let you. She makes lovely doggies groans of joy when she is petted and loves to snuggle right up and give back some affection of her own.

We are treating her wounds and her eye irritations and working on getting what is likely months worth of discharge cleaned up carefully so that she can begin to heal. Even this she endures with sweet doggy gentleness, allowing us to apply ointment and drops without a fuss.
She is on the submissive side, preferring to take a non-confrontational stance when faced with the other dogs in our home. We have had no accidents in the house, no barking and absolutely no signs of aggression or guarding behaviors.

Our best guess is that this darling is a mix of lab/beagle/husky and what mix her pups might be is hard to tell. What we can tell you is that a beautiful and gentle soul had entered our home and when the time comes for her to move to her forever home she is the type of dog that will remain in our hearts forever.

Meet Maddie

Maddie was first brought to the attention of SiberRescueOntario a few weeks ago by some very dedicated people trying to save her life.

Along with two other female dogs, Maddie was locked in a yard of a backyard breeder, subjected to the elements. One of the dogs was chained. All three were very pregnant.

Pulling the dogs from the breeder would have meant that all three of these pregnant girls would face euthanasia as there were no facilities to house them in their location.

Before arrangements could be made, Miss Maddie gave birth to a very large litter of 10 beautiful puppies. Now all of these babies, along with their Momma faced death without rescue.

A group of absolutely amazing people came together, each playing their own role in finding a way to get these dogs to safety. Maddie and her crew are now safely ensconced in a room of their very own in a house where they will be very well cared and will receive medical treatment as needed until they are able to move on to their forever homes.

A huge thanks goes out to (in alphabetical order) Carla, Jennifer, Jill, Laura, and Madeline for rescuing these beautiful souls from impending death and allowing them the future that all dogs should have.

If you might be able to help either of the other Momma’s in danger, please contact info@siberrescue.org and we will put you in touch with the appropriate people.

Check back frequently to follow the progress of these beautiful dogs as we move through the next few weeks.
